Marrakech Food scene

I am a real foodie. I will eat most foods except for raw celery and raisins. Mr Poachie insists I am the most discerning person about food which is nonsense!

I just love eating home cooked food made from fresh ingredients.

So therefore when we travel it is no exception and I will do hours of research to find the best places to eat. I think life is too short to risk a bad meal, and how often do you hear about people visiting a touristy city on their mini break and discovering somewhere great themselves?

You're more likely to get fleeced and end up eating sh!t.

So I thought I would dedicate a blog post to the food scene in Marrakech. We only had a few days here but I had found so many great places to eat for lunch and dinners.

We didn't make reservations at any of them and it was fine with the exception of La Famille which was fully booked all day when we wanted to visit. This was a bit of pain as we had planned a visit towards that end of the city and had hoped to eat there so despite it not being a problem for the rest of the trip, it might just be best to book in if you don't want to miss out.

The breakfast served at Le Riad Yasmine was so fresh and delicious. Home baked cakes and fruit bowls with hot coffee and yummy orange juice. It was a great start to the day of lots of exploring.

Most of the restaurants were really reasonable in price. The Terasse des Epices was our most expensive meal out but it was A. fantastic food and service and B. I drank a lot of rose.

When we went out for lunch we ordered a lot of vegetarian food which was so fresh, filling and delicious. Both Mr Poachie and I are keen carnivores but the meals left us wanting for nothing.

We found this bar Le Salama it was cool in décor but actually soooooo hot inside. Plus, like all of Marrakech it seemed to attract a certain blogger type crowd but it served rose and had a pretty ceiling so I was happy.

I am a bit of a lush so after having visited Morocco around 8 years ago when you weren't allowed to drink in the old city, a lot of the places we visited did have a licence to serve alcohol. Huzzah!

Mr Poachie had never been to somewhere like Morocco before but he loved it. The tagines we had were so good!

I also had another winner from Le Jardin a delicious lamb number. Sadly this restaurant didn't serve alcohol which is a shame as a nice glass of red would have gone down well.

Shtatto was another hip place to go for lunch and surprisingly empty when we arrived but it did soon fill up.

In most places you will be offered delicious mint tea and despite the heat its a very welcome gesture.

So in no particular order, here is my list of the best places to eat in Marrakech.

Nomad.
Shtatto.
Terrase des espice
Le Jardin
Le Salama
La Famille
Café des Espices
L limoni

You really are spoilt for choice! The other thing I would recommend is having a fresh orange juice from the medina, it tastes like pure sunshine.
