Great Dixter House and Gardens

It doesn't matter if you have been somewhere before, it can still surprise you.

This was the case with Great Dixter, I had visited previously which you can read here and I knew I wanted to return in the summer months but I had no idea how wonderful it would be!

The gardens were enormous and plentiful, I didn't know if I had fallen down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland or if I had stumbled across the secret garden. It was a mixture of both.

It felt like an unintentional labyrinth of wonderful gardens to explore. Sometimes I get anxious in places like this as I worry I won't see it all. I know these photo's don't do it justice, it was such a wonderful place to explore. It felt like every corner I turned there was another garden to be discovered. Some of the pathways were very overgrown which again made it feel like I had been shrunk and was wondering through these oversized flowers.

It is part of the Historic Houses Membership which is another reason I am so glad I joined! Tickets would usually cost£12.65 and must be booked online. The house is currently closed.

They offer a number of topiary gardens, borders, wild meadows, potting shed, cafe, loggia, exotic gardens, nursery and so much more. I was really pleasantly surprised by my trip and look forward to returning!

  1. How beautifully you described your trip to Great Dixter House and Gardens. I'm inspired to pack up my bags and visit the gardens based on your description. By the way, have you given any thought to using this magnificent location in one of your videos that highlight your video services. The unintentional maze and overgrown pathways sound like a dreamy adventure. Congratulations for participating in the Historic Houses Membership; it seems to be an interesting attempt. I just want to ask: Is there any favourite spot or garden that stole your heart during this visit? I look forward to more of your countryside escapades.
