Ightham Mote

Who doesn't love a medieval moated manor house? Nearly 700 years old Ightham Mote hasn't lost any of its romantic charm.

Surrounded by woodlands, lakes, orchards and glorious gardens its a real winner in the National Trusts collection.

I have visited a few times, mostly in the Autumn as they hold apple days and food fairs.

I have also attended one of their Christmas wreath making courses a few years back. I think I will write some posts about wreath making but not yet as it will make me seasonally confused.

Highlights also include the picturesque courtyard, Great Hall, crypt, Tudor painted ceiling, Grade I listed dog kennel and the private apartments of Charles Henry Robinson, who gave Ightham Mote to the National Trust in 1985.

The other great reason to visit is for the Chaser Inn pub located about 15 minutes away serving delicious cheese burgers.

It really is a lovely place for a wander. The estate walk is great and offers fantastic views of the countryside.

Inside the house is very grand. The house has seen many changes and been owned by Medieval knights, courtiers to Henry VIII and high society Victorians.

This is the courtyard with the Grade 1 listed dog kennel! Vintage poochies eat your heart out.

These are the sort of staircases that look haunted. You can almost hear the slow heavy footsteps coming up them each night...chains clanging, windows burst open with a big gust of wind! Sorry I'm getting carried away.

Instead of putting unsightly 'please do not sit on the sofa' signs, they left dried flowers on the chairs and sofas. It made me smile and I thought might be a useful tactic for your own house when you don't want your guests to stay!
