Pampas grass wreath

I love a wreath. I would have one all year round. In fact, I have one for Easter, I have my autumnal pampas grass wreath and I always make a wreath for Crimbo so really I need to figure out what I can do to get one up there for Summer!

Now, the hardest thing about making this wreath, is sourcing the pampas grass itself.

Obviously you can buy it but florists charge a lot for each stem and I am not sure of the quality of the types you can buy on amazon.

So I need to make a confession, I made Mr Poachie steal some for me. I do not condone stealing but we saw this pampas grass bush on our way to the office and technically it wasn't in someone's garden, it was just growing on a bush next the pavement.

So one night, when Mr Poachie was coming home late from rehearsals (he is a raving thespian) he stopped and snipped a couple of stems for me. I laughed a lot when he came room as he entered the bedroom shaking these pampas grass stems like some sort of showgirl.

Anyway, enough crime chat. Here is how to make a wreath.

I bought the twine ring from Hobbycraft and then used around 10 stems of pampas grass.

Tie some string at the top of your ring (ooh matron) and then starting from the bottom, work clockwise tying your grass firmly to the twine ring and keep going round until it is all covered. Working in the same direction ensures that the ends will not stick out.

Once you are happy with it, I decorated with some pheasant feathers and some dried flowers and then gave it a good douse of hairspray.

Here is the final version that I made last year. Amazingly, despite the wet October we had, it survived and when it was time to change the Autumn wreath for my Christmas wreath I decided to box it and store in the loft to see if I could use it this year...

And below is what it looks like this year! It is a little bedraggled but it's still in one piece!

So give it a go, it was cheap and fun and it makes me smile each day I come home (which now, due to lockdown isn't a lot, as I am always home)

Thanks for reading!!
