The flower garden PYO

I have been trying to grow my own dahlias, roses and hydrangeas with mixed success. My hydrangeas didn't flower last year but they did this year although they keep changing colours and the petals dry out really quickly so I can't work out whether they are getting too much sun? Taking care of plants and flowers is tricky business but I am trying to learn.

My dahlias have flowered on one plant but the rest of them (I have ten different types in total) either didn't grow or haven't yet flowered.

So, one afternoon of doing weeding at home and getting frustrated with not being able to pick flowers from my own garden, Mr Poachie and I visited a cutting garden nearby.

We usually visit Cherry Gardens and I still intend to visit again this year, its become a bit of a tradition, but this cutting garden at PerryHill orchards I had not heard of before so we went to check it out.

I took my own basket and secateurs but these are provided for you if you don't have any. We were the only ones here and the kind lady allowed Rosie to come in too.

Its £10 to fill a vase/jug and she lets kids come and pick a jug for free! I mainly chose a selection of Gladioli and Dahlia's. I also bought a small plant/flower (I forgot the name) for 75p! I can't remember the last time I spent 75p and certainly the cheapest price I have ever paid for a flower. I thoroughly recommend a visit.

There is plenty of parking as its located by a farm shop which sells the usual produce and there is also a tearoom (dogs aren't allowed in either but they are welcome to sit outside on the decking).

Flower picking is such a lovely activity and I like to buy my flowers from a local seller.

If you would like to read my previous blog posts on flower picking you can here, here and here.
