Dahlia love; flower picking at Cherry Garden Organic Farm
I have a thing for cutting gardens. And dahlias. Sunflowers... flowers in general! One day I aspire to have a little cutting garden of my own so that I can grow my favourite blooms. But until then I visit Cherry Gardens farm which luckily is only down the road from me.
From the outside, it is tiny, just a sweet little organic farm shop but they also offer PYO fruits and flowers.
I had visited last year which you can read here and I wasn't planning on going again but I felt the need for dahlia's in my life so off we popped.
I had stupidly forgotten my snippers and with COVID knocking about I thought that I wouldn't be able to borrow some from the farm shop but the lady was kind and lent me hers.
In truth, I don't know what a lot of these flowers are but they have a lot of variety. Last year when I went I was like a child in a sweet shop and went mad taking at least one of each but this year I had a clearer vision of what I wanted to come home with.
I was mainly after the cafe au lait dahlias which sadly they didn't have but they did have lots of other colours.
I had to be careful not to disturb the bees, the rows are very close together and I was also careful not to trample on the flowers.
It is such a nice way to spend 30 mins or so, Mr Poachie came with me but sat in the shade, sad that they weren't serving campachoochoo's.
I love sunflowers so much! Most had wilted and died from the heatwave but I brought two home with me. They always cheer me up.
I bought this beautiful bunch along with some dried poppy heads and it only cost me £3! That's so reasonable and it was lovely to be able to choose my own.
Mr Poachie bought me this new camera which I am still getting to grips with. But now when we go anywhere I take double the amount of photos as I like to know I have got all the good shots on my iphone and then I went round again trying out the camera.
You don't have to book you just turn up ready to go!
I felt I had died and gone to floral heaven.
Hello sunshine.
I once read that sunflowers turn their head's to the sun and if they can't see it they turn towards each other. I don't know if that is true but I like to think it is.
Despite the overwhelming heat wave we have had recently I have been loving the long hot summer days and evenings. I really am a child of summer and enjoy being outside when the countryside is lush and green and you can be barefoot.
My beauties!
