Gordes, Provence

The pretty hillside village of Gordes is really worth a visit. When planning our Provencal escape we did toy with the idea of staying here but after visiting, I am glad that we chose Lourmarin instead.

Gordes is very small, there is a large car park at the top and then you walk a short distance into the centre where you will find restaurants, pharmacies (the French do love their pharmacies!) shops and galleries.

The first thing we did was stop for a drink and we soon realised, we were sitting in the restaurant where some scenes were filmed from 'A good year' starring Russell Crowe. I can't remember the name of it but you can't miss it, there is a big fountain at the front of it in the pretty courtyard.

After an aperol, we walked around trying to stick to the shade as much as possible!

We soon found some pretty walkways and incredible views over the French countryside.

The shops sell such lovely things like these soaps, they smell irresistible.

I also thought these tins were cute.

After an hour or so, we felt we had explored as much as we wanted to, and we were keen to get out of the sunshine and into the pool so we made our way to Lourmarin which was where we were staying for the next four days.

When you leave, make sure you stop at the viewpoint. There is a small layby/parking area with signs of the viewpoint, you will probably see other tourists there but its a great spot for photos!
