Dog friendly accommodation in the UK

Since having Rosie in my life, I have started to really appreciate the joy of 'staycationing'. I love to travel but I really loathe leaving Rosie. She is well taken care of whilst we are away, I just miss her and dog's lives are so short I want to embrace all of our time together! So I did my research and found some amazing places to stay that are dog friendly.

First up is The Rapids Cottage located by the river Wye in Hereford, this stunning cottage has incredible views and you can hear the rapids swooshing below.

The cottage is beautifully designed and very comfortable. The outdoor area boasts a cinema room, balcony and an amazing hot tub/bath which is private.

The local area has plenty of dog walking routes and dog friendly pubs, you could even take them for a swim in river in warmer months.

If you are going to book a stay here its worth noting that all of the outdoor area is decking, there is open woodland behind the property so for dogs to do their business, you might have to go out with them if they need to go out.

Next up is the beautiful Mulberry Mill which is part of the Unique Homestays properties. Possibly one of the most incredible houses I have had the pleasure of staying in, it is like a dolls house.

Rosie particularly liked the extensive gardens and when I went for a kayak down the river, she insisted on jumping in and coming to find me. We have a life jacket for her but she is a good swimmer and is never in the water without us so we don't actually use it.

Inside the property, they have thought of everything. There is a mud/boot room and dog beds, bowels and towels are provided. We had incredible weather when we stayed but this would have been very useful for long muddy walks in the countryside.

With plenty of walks right from your doorstep, your pooch will love roaming around. One thing to note is that the garden has a public walkway through it, once Rosie discovered this, she would sometimes escape to go round the front of the house if we had shut the gate to try and keep her in the garden and on one occasion she snuck out to go and eat some cow pats. She is a delightful creature.

Here we have Olea which I booked through Boutique Retreats. I fell in love with the thatched cottages and booked it immediately once I knew it was dog friendly.

This two bedroom cottage has a private patio garden filled with beautiful flowers but Rosie only likes to do her business on grass so this was a bit of a pain having to take her out but there is a park nearby and plenty of grass verges outside the property. I saw some beautiful sunrises and sunsets when I stayed here whilst I was waiting for her to snuffle and do her business!

This cottage is located in the pretty town of Amberley. The local pubs are dog friendly and I found some great walking trails on the AllTrails app, one of which was a loop from the cottage.

Located at the foot of the South Downs, there are plenty of places to walk, including Knepp Safaris and its also a relatively short drive to West Wittering beach, which Rosie loved.

When Rosie was still a puppy, we took her to the pretty town of Rye and booked the nearby Little Lavender Cottage. The owner has a cockapoo herself so she left us a welcome hamper which included treats for Rosie.

The cottage is so pretty, I loved the decor. We stayed in December so it was lovely and festive inside.

Nearby you have the very dog friendly town of Rye, which has plenty of shops and cafes. You can visit Bodiam castle which is a National Trust property and there is also camber sands beach. The perfect dog friendly location.

The garden at this cottage is private and secure so you can let your pup out and know that they are safe. This has become something that I check first now as it is so much more convenient knowing you can just let them out and not have to worry.

I would love to return here in the Summer, its not to far from where we live which is good as Rosie isn't overly keen on long drives in the car.

The cottage also has a great instagram page if you want to give them a follow. The owner is really lovely.

The next cottage is somewhere I found on instagram and its Little Norfolk Cottage

I had followed this account for a while as I was obsessed with the design so when we planned our visit to Norfolk, I knew I wanted to stay here.

In truth, this cottage was a little bit disappointing, there is no parking and no garden so it meant standing on the grass verge each morning asking Rosie if she wanted to go 'wee wee's'. This was one of our first trips away with Rosie so in hindsight I perhaps should have thought about what was more important...

The cottage itself is pretty and I love all of the styling but it was very small on the inside, we didn't have very good weather whilst we were here and it felt quite cramped.

Lots of the nearby villages and beaches are dog friendly and we did a long walk around Cley next to the sea. The other thing we found disappointing was the quality of the food in the pubs that were recommended. Perhaps I'm just a massive snob!

As Norfolk is a good few hours in the car for us, I don't think I would go back. So much of the things to see and do here are weather dependent but I am glad we visited. Rosie enjoyed herself, the beaches give her the 'zoomies'!

Lastly, one of my most favourite weekends was spent at The Hyde which I booked through Cabins and Castles who specialise in rentals around Sussex.

We stayed during a heatwave and the shepherds hut is a sun trap facing your own pond with row boat so this was just idyllic.

They ask that no-one swims in the pond as to not disturb the wildlife and I was slightly worried that Rosie would jump in, especially when I went for a row but she didn't.

She did however escape a few times to join the owners dog run around in their large garden and she stole a sponge, don't ask me where she found it from. The owners, who live on the land, were fine about it and they have a lovely dog themselves but its worth knowing that its not 100% secure in terms of keeping dogs contained.

Nearby there are lots of dog friendly attractions to visit like Borde Hill Garden and High Beeches Garden. There is also the Bolney vineyard and the lovely town of Cuckfield. We are returning here soon and I am so excited to stay!
