Roussillon, Provence

The beautiful town of Roussillon could easily fool you into thinking that you might have arrived at Australia's red centre, or perhaps Utah. As you approach this ochre coloured hilltop village, there are endless views of red stone steeping down to the vineyards below. A truly wondrous place.

On the day that we visited, it was 37 degrees and no breeze. We parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up to the top and immediately decided that we needed refreshments and lunch so we dived into the first restaurant with AC and then planned our visit.

Roussillon is very small but worth a visit to admire the colours which are so different to any other the other places we visited in Provence.

There is a cemetery (which we didn't walk to) art galleries' and shops, lots of restaurants and places to get ice cream and a church with wonderful views of the valley below.

After lunch, feeling a bit more refreshed, we walked very slowly up to the top of the town.
I would have liked to have been able to explore a bit more but it was just so hot!

By the time we reached the top and took in the exquisite views, we decided against staying for another drink and just decided to head back to the air conditioned car and make our way to our final stop on our stay, Saint Victor La Coste.

It is a must visit though if you are in the region, the colours are so beautiful and unique its a photographers dream.

I wish I had more to say about it, just wear sunscreen when you visit!
