The Hyde

I have always wanted to stay in a Shepherds Hut, but its always struck me as a little risky. I mean, they are small and what if they are really cold?

I found this hut on Cabins and Castles and this was no ordinary Shepherds Hut, it comes with its own lake and row boat! Be quiet and take my money. It is also dog friendly, so when I asked Mr Poachie if he fancied going for a weekend, he knew, there was only one acceptable answer.

Sidenote; Mr Poachie's view on sleeping in a Shepherds hut is that its a strange concept to spend a lot of money to stay in what he believes is an overpriced shed that wont be well insulated.

Let me tell you, we neednt have worried about the possibility of being cold as we lucked out with the weather and it was a complete sun trap. Also, it wasnt ridiculously expensive to stay in for  the weekend and if the weather had been cold, there was a fire pit and a log burner inside to keep you toasty.

Located near Cuckfield in West Sussex there is lots to do nearby, we visited Borde Hill gardens and Bolney vineyard. There was a great pub which you could walk to (around 30 mins each way), it was so good we went there both nights. There is also Leonardslee gardens, South Lodge hotel, Ockenden manor and the village of Cuckfield itself is worth a visit.

Back to the hut, it has parking for one car and the owners live onsite but your cabin and bathroom, which is separate, are both private. The owner was lovely and she came over with her little doggy and I bought some local fizz that her sons were selling to guests so they could save up to go on a cricket trip.

The cabin is well equipped with all that you need, but it is small inside so i would either say to leave your bags in the car or to put them in the bathroom which is a ten second walk away.

It was so hot during our stay, we were happy to relax by the water and ofcourse I had to have a little row about the pond.

Just because its small does not mean it is not filled with quality items, lovely blankets and bed linen, mugs from Anthropologie and all the things you could need if you did fancy cooking on the hob.

You are surrounded by wildlife and it is the best spot to unwind. Each night once the sun went down I would go and get some blankets and we laid on the jetty moon bathing. How often do you get to do that? I love summer evenings like that.

The owner has said I can go back for another visit as she loved my photos (which I sent her copies of) so I am going to rebook for this year, I just hope the weather will be as good as last time! She was also very understanding when Rosie snuck out and bounded over to their garden, such a pickle!

How Dawsons Creek is this?! Must give kudos to Mr Poachie who took so many photos of me, it was just too pretty not to get all that content! When we are away I do always make sure that once I have the shots I want, I put the camera down, put my phone away and be present in the moment. Ill edit the photos later, its important to make memories and not just take photos.

We were worried that Rosie would jump in due to the heat and her love for swimming but thankfully she didn't.

So SO dreamy.

Can't wait to go back!
