Manoir de Plaisance

Last Summer, on the hottest day in England, after long delays at Gatwick we flew to France, where it was even hotter! The summers heatwave had got so high that France was experiencing wild fires, thankfully, we missed the worst of it and our manoir came with a pool, which we were so grateful for.

We landed at nighttime, 3 hours later than expected, hungry tired and thirsty and the owners had stayed up to wait for us, showed us around (and located the honesty bar!) and gave us some snacks to eat. So lovely of them to do so as it was late. After a quick snack we headed to bed and then woke up to this beautiful manoir.

I knew it was going to be utterly gorgeous as I had found them on Mr and Mrs Smith.I think all their properties are a stunning curation of hotels and villas but this was so peaceful and green and the owners had done a fantastic job of setting the ambience and decor.

It felt very 'Escape to the chateau' - we adore that show! And now I am manifesting a manoir in my life.

The agenda for this trip was very simple, relax and do nothing. I wanted to read books by the poolside, drink rose, and eat delicious food.

The manoir provided a buffet breakfast with a choice of cooked eggs and they also offered excellent suppers a few nights a week (at an extra cost) but not lunches. This would have been a good thing to have done because most places in France shut between 11-4pm so unless you have been organised and visited the local market to buy things, you went hungry which we did on our first day.

Not wanting to make this mistake again, the next day we cycled down a flat, quiet road to the neighbouring village to buy some meats bread and cheeses. The manoir provided the bikes free of charge and the roads felt safe to cycle along, the last 5 minutes was a bit scarier as its a main road with lorries on.

It felt so nice to cycle somewhere to purchase fresh baguettes and cheese, oh so French!

Especially when we passed by fields of sunflowers for as far as the eye could see, which was unexpected as we didn't know that this area is known for it.

So other than a gentle cycle in the afternoons, we didn't really do much else!

And with surroundings as gorgeous as this, why would you want to leave!
