Oh Christmas tree... choosing a tree 2020
As with so many things this year, to buy a Christmas tree we had to book a slot. Ok I admit, this is because I refuse to buy a pre-cut tree from a garden centre so I needed to find somewhere that would let us come in to do this.
Last year it was a farm in Five Ashes that had an actual reindeer but this year I booked a slot at Wilderness Wood near Hadlow Down.
It was funny because when we lived in Mayfield I must have driven past this a bunch of times and always wondered what it was and was intrigued to visit and then here we were chopping down a tree!
Mr Poachie was not feeling his most festive self as he had walked a 30k walk the day before and was feeling a little sore so I don't think he was best pleased that I was asking him to chop a tree down and carry it back to the car but in fairness I had booked this before he planned a long walk so it comes down to bad diary planning on his part!
They did sell pre cut trees here if you didn't want to chop one down but I think this is much more fun as then you can go into the field and see which tree you form a connection with.
I found the connection with a blue Norwegian spruce which is a bit of a prickly bugger. Mr Poachie and the tree are not pals.
But he pulled himself together and carried the 7ft beast back up to the car like a true man should.
Wilderness Wood was a cool place, they run forestry courses and it felt a bit hippie dippie.
There was a man with the measuring pole just hanging out in field, I think he was the type to eat vegan yogurt for breakfast.
Have you got your tree yet?
