A Christmas escape to Bath

Last year I decided that I wanted to visit the Christmas markets in Bath and whilst they were cancelled due to covid, we were still able to travel as we are in the same tier and Bath and we had a jolly old time.
I do like a festive trip at Christmas, last year we had a weekend in Oxfordshire and visited Waddesdon manor which was magical.

As lockdown had only been lifted a few days before we weren't able to do much planning but that was fine, we were lucky enough to visit the Roman Baths and Prior park. We weren't fussed about going out for dinner and as we loved our Airbnb so much we stayed in, got cosy and took full advantage of being able to order what we liked on Deliveroo! We live in the sticks so our takeaways are limited so this felt really novel and it took Mr Poachie aggggeees to decide what to order. In the end, we both settled for pizza, lol we are so basic!

Bath is around 3.5 hours drive from us so we left around 9am and arrived just in time for our pre booked tickets to the Roman Baths. It was so quiet when we visited which was awesome, I don't think you need more than an hour here but it was nice not to be in a crowd. Most of it is outdoors but they had put all the relevant safety measures in place when you were inside.

Afterwards we had a mooch about, whilst the Christmas markets weren't on there were a lot of stall holders selling cheese and crepes etc and all the lights were up and the shops were decorated so it did feel nice and festive. It was also bloody cold so hot chocs were much needed!

Neither Mr Poachie or I are keen shoppers we much prefer to do it online but Bath does have great shopping and is a really pretty city. I have visited a few times before but never really felt like I have actually seen it properly? But I adore the sandstone buildings. We walked down the Royal Crescent and tried to have a peek inside the windows to see how fancy the kitchens were. We are nosey like that.

After picking up some delicious bits from a deli, we checked into our apartment which was in such a great location and we had really lucked out with it. It was a little more expensive that I would usually pay for one night away but after this bonkers year we thought the hell and splurged and it was so worth it.

The decor was stunning, beautiful panelling and gorgeous paint colours. I could have happily moved in! The only problem with town apartments is the noise of the street and other people coming and going but it wasn't really a problem for the time we were there.

We had a super chill evening watching films, stuffing our faces with pizza and I enjoyed a bottle of sparkling rose. The owner had decorated the room for Christmas so we had a really nice cosy night.

The next day we had breakfast at the Ivy. We hadn't planned to eat out at all as we wanted limit being indoors but we walked past it and couldn't resist some posh eggs for breakfast. It was seriously yummy and the service is always so good there.

Afterwards we got in the car and headed to Prior park which is a National Trust landscape garden. Sadly, most of it was covered in gates and scaffolds etc but we felt good for getting some steps in before the long car journey home.

Bath does have a lot more to offer than what I have mentioned, it is great for eating and drinking and popular for girls weekends away. There is also a lot of history here and Jane Austen fans would love it!

Now we are back home and I only have a few weeks left of work before I have some much needed time off over Christmas. We are hosting so I have lots to do in terms of prep and I really like crafting so will spend most of my evenings channelling my inner Kirsty Alsop/Nigella for alllll the festive goodies!
