Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...

Last weekend, we packed our bags and headed to Dover. I never normally enjoy the British coastline as it can seem a bit rough but after a quick look at St Margaret's bay and the offer of visiting Deal nearby, I was eager to get going!

It took us less than two hours to drive, which is just the perfect amount of time for carpool karaoke, fuelled by campachoochoo's. Mr Poachie lurrrves my renditions of Backstreet Boys and probably all of my singing, although he like to pretend he doesn't, but he did seems particularly happy when we arrived to be greeted by peace and fresh sea air.

We were very lucky to be staying at our friend's lovely house on top of the cliff's overlooking The English Channel.

They are keen moth enthusiasts so we got to see what they caught in their moth trap overnight. It's completely safe and the moths are recorded as part of a national study on moth populations and in the morning they're all released. Please don't ask me the name of the moth!

When I posted the images on social media I was asked if this was an Airbnb property which it isn't, but they definitely could turn it into one, it was fabulous.

I do like a nautical theme.

I loved all of the quirky bits and pieces! Most people when they arrive somewhere like to have a cup of tea and freshen up but I have to run around taking lots of photo's first.

The wild flowers that grow up on the cliffs are wonderful. Lots of poppies still which I love. The National Trust own much of the costal paths near Saint Margaret's Bay so there are some gorgeous walks to be had.

After we had lunch, we headed into Deal. Mr Poachie and I were originally planning to cycle in but it was soooooo hot we decided not to and drove which was a very good decision.

Deal was cute, it had some nice shops and bars but there wasn't a huge amount to see and do.  I'm glad we visited though.

This shop was cool; packed with lots of interesting objet d'art.

I can't wait until Mr Poachie and I buy somewhere of our own so I can fill it up with weird and wonderful trinkets.

Obligatory photo of boats.

After a long day of walking and stopping off for glasses of wine, we then headed to the beach for a quick dip in the sea.

It is a family tradition so as chilly as it was we all jumped in and I will tell you, it was the most refreshing and invigorating swim! The wine I had drunk beforehand certainly helped but it felt great.

We then had a post swim vino to congratulate ourselves.

Man it was chilly! We certainly missed the heatwave.

This was the view from the road to our house. Not bad England, not bad at all. Generally, I always prefer the countryside but this really was such a wonderful weekend away. It was nice to get the best of both worlds as when we come home, we get our fix of countryside right on our doorstep.

The next morning, after far too much wine from the night before, we got up early and went out for a long walk.

I had a bit of a forage and collected some wonderful dried flowers to take back home.

I liked these little snails. There were hundreds of them!

National Trust everywhere we go!

On the way back we stopped off at Faversham which I had heard was meant to be a nice little town. I actually really wanted to go to Margate; I know its meant to be rough but I thought it would be fun to take photo's of Dreamland.

Sadly for me, it was closed but everyone else was pleased as they didn't want to go!

I will write a post on Faversham soon, photos to follow!
