Grantchester, Cambridgshire

Grantchester is a tiny village located a short drive from Cambridge city centre. After seeing a photo of the cottage above on Instagram, I put it on my list of places I wanted to village and we tied it into our trip to Cambridge.

You might think I am mad to only want to visit a village because of a thatched cottage but there is a lot more to offer in this little village...

From here, you can walk through the glorious meadows on a riverside walk that will take you all the way into the city centre. It is a popular route for cyclists, walkers and for those who want to picnic!

I saw in a local newspaper that they were trying to ban people from wild swimming here, I could imagine on a hot day it would be very tempting to dive in for a dip to cool off.

We didn't do the full walk but we enjoyed the scenic walk, saw some swans and after completing 8000 steps we felt we had earnt ourselves a cold drink and lunch at the local pub!

There were a few pubs to choose from, in such a tiny village! We chose the Red Lion as the gentleman who worked at the coffee van recommended it. In the village there are a ton of cute cottages to swoon at and there is also a gin distillery shop, which ticks a lot of boxes for it to be my ideal village!

For lunch we ordered the burrata and Mr Poachie had a scotch egg. Both were amazing and the service was great so if you are planning on visiting I would 100% suggest this place.

After spending the previous day in the city this was the perfect balance to end our trip away. The whole pace of the trip was nice and slow and it was great to be able to get away again!

Thanks for reading. x
