Exploring Somerset

We have just got back from a wonderful weekend in Somerset, celebrating a friend's birthday and it coincided with a heatwave which made for the perfect al fresco weekend.

On our way down, we stopped for lunch in Mells.
Mells is a small village with a great looking pub called The Talbot Inn which we didn't go into but it looks gorgeous. We had a mooch around so I could photograph the cottages and we stumbled across this eccentric lady selling plates and teacups outside her house. I couldn't resist buying something, she was charmingly bonkers and had two sweet doggies who helped me choose which pieces I wanted!

We had lunch in the peaceful setting of The Walled Garden Cafe, the food itself I didn't think was that nice but the surroundings were very pretty and they also had a lot of plants for sale. If I am ever down this way again I would choose to eat in the pub and come back here for a slice of cake!

You wouldn't need to spend much time here, after wandering around the church we got into the car and headed towards Wells, I did actually ask Mr Poachie to take me to Babington House which is five minutes from here as I wanted to photograph it but annoyingly there were so many people outside I couldn't get a decent shot and then I panicked as I am not a member (I wish I was!) and I am pretty sure you aren't meant to take photos so I was scared security would ask me to leave!

Wells is a really beautiful city and the cathedral is impressive. Sadly we didn't have time to visit the Bishops palace gardens but it's on the list for next time. I wanted to get some photo's of Vicars close which is the street I am standing in, in the first image of this blog post.

I loved how this street had little quirks and each house was slightly different. The windows weren't aligned and it gave it so much character.

By this point we were very hot from walking around and we needed to be back on the road again to get to my friends house. I really like Somerset, its such a beautiful place and in the sunshine the English countryside and the rolling hills looked spectacular!

I will write a second blog post on our trip to Tyntesfield which we did the next morning.

I really need an early night after drinking far too much rose over the weekend and playing on the bouncy castle!
