Smallhythe Place
Smallhythe Place (appropriately named as it is very quaint), is a beautiful home now owned by the National Trust. Previously home to the actress Ellen Terry, it is now a museum set up by her daughter to commemorate her life.
It is not somewhere I visit often as its quite far from where I live but it is such a lovely place to see in the Summer when the house is covered in roses and the gardens are in full bloom.
There is still a theatre here within the grounds and there are often shows running throughout the year.
There is also a small tea room serving refreshments, a visit to the National Trust is never complete without tea and cake!
When I visited there were lots of gardeners tending to the plants but I love how it is somehow quite wild, whilst being maintained regularly.
On this particular visit, I didn't look inside as I was short on time but there is a museum inside with a writing hut and a costume room which must be fascinating!
A must visit if you are in the area.
