Hidcote Manor

Hidcote Manor is one of those magical places where you can get lost for an afternoon and truly marvel at the beauty of your surroundings.

An arts and crafts garden located in the dreamy Cotswolds, it ticks a lot of boxes for an afternoon out.

The garden is divided into a series of ‘outdoor rooms’, each with its own character. The formality of the ‘rooms’ melts away as you move through the garden away from the house. It was all beautiful but I think what I liked most about it was the feeling of the garden being 'wild'.

I'm sure it takes a lot of work to get it looking just so but I prefer that to gardens that are perfectly manicured.

June is a great time to visit places like this as the roses start to bloom. We also saw lots of wisteria which I'm presuming was still there due to the cold Spring we have just had.

We booked tickets in advance and followed the one way route around the gardens. The National Trust generally release tickets around 4-5 days in advance and I prefer the fact that you have to book now as it helps manage the numbers and you know that you are guaranteed to get in.

As we walked around we saw numerous borders, the Italian shelter silent garden, the bathing pool, the long walk, kitchen gardens, wild flower meadow... it was an endless myriad of pathways to secret gardens.

We also went for a wander outside the venue and discovered the chocolate-box Cotswold hamlet of Hidcote Bartrim which was delightful. The thatched cottages here used to be homes to the gardeners but they are now managed by the National Trust and rented out.

As well as the gardens they also have a chapel, library, cafe, second hand bookshop. I'm not sure if in non covid times if you can access the house. If you are planning a visit just be sure to check the website.

As you can see I took a lot of photo's, I have hundreds more on my camera roll! It was just so beautiful and well worth the visit.
