PYO apples at Castle Farm

Years ago, I visited Castle Farm to pick apples and I had never forgotten how delicious their Norfolk Royal apples were. So sweet and crisp!

I wasn't intending on going back this year but I saw some fantastic photo's from their social media pages and took myself off for a little visit.

Castle Farm is such a wonderful place to visit as they have so much to offer. If you love all things countryside then this place is for you.

They are famous for their lavender fields but they also have apple orchards, hop bines, pumpkins, a farm shop selling a huge variety of goodies, they have maize fields, cattle, a river... its just gorgeous.

I popped into the shop first and bought some dried maize as I wanted to create a rustic display for Halloween this year. I am tempted to buy some of their dried hop bines but I'm not sure where I would put them.

Mr Poachie didn't come with me on this visit so I used a little tripod to take some photo's of myself. For this I had to use my iphone rather than my camera and I'm quite impressed with how they turned out!

Thankfully there weren't too many people around so I didn't feel like a wally taking photos of myself. It is obviously easier to have Mr Poachie help me but I have to respect that he doesn't find joy in all of the same things I do! I am now on the hunt for a taller tripod but one that is easy to carry around with me. If you have any recommendations please let me know.

I bought a basket from the shop too as I figure you can never have too many baskets in your life!

There is some apple picking etiquette that you need to abide by as I think in previous years people were turning up, over picking and then leaving the apples on the floor. They had so much waste which is a shame. I did buy some apples but the ones I used for these photo's were apples that were already on the floor or damaged.

Its free to visit, you just pay for what you pick. They have a dedicated parking field for the orchard as it is located a little further away from the shop, which is clearly signposted. They are open all September on Friday's, Saturdays and Sunday and you don't need to book!
